There is nothing that makes me forget who I am as much as a music on the car radio when the weather is nice and the windows are down.
Today I’m driving home from my now Seven Year Old’s annual checkup when the Spin Doctors’ song Two Princes comes on.
I am instantly transported to freshman year of college (and every cheesy fraternity party that followed the next three years) when I routinely danced around my room to that song. I could almost feel my leggings and oversized tshirt stretching with each stellar move.
I thought I was the hottest thing since toast back then and for a minute today I forgot I was kinda old, a little flabby and not strutting across campus, but rather behind the wheel of a Dodge Mini Van that is stereotypically trashed with fast-food wrappers and crushed cheerios. (It has been “mommed“.)
For just a minute I was cool. And young. And hawt.
Then, I heard this:
F:Eeewww, moooooom Griff is stinky.
D:Nope that was me. (Wait for it…) I just farted.
F: Oh
It is as if the record scratched and I was instantly transported back to real time, real life and real stink.
Aah motherhood.
