I have been contemplating a tattoo. I think it’s a control thing. You know, like I still have some control over what I do with myself. I am not entirely beholden to my children and their world.
That said, I want to make it really count, which is why I haven’t gotten one yet. I don’t want some misspelled Italian word a la Hayden Panettiere. I don’t want a cliche butterfly, or even worse some Asian character meaning peace (or spaghetti). These are great tattoos for people that find meaning in them (some people really love spaghetti).
My friend got her kids’ initials scripted on her recently. It’s gorgeous and simple. But I want this to be something that is just for me. I have always been a little stubborn when it comes to individualism.
The one that sticks out the most is a wedding ring. See, I lost all my wedding rings a few years ago. (Yes, all-including my grandmother’s band and my first mother’s day present. Yes, it still breaks my heart.) In an effort to try to find a replacement ring, I haven’t seen anything that really speaks to me like my original did. So, why not our initials-linked with the date-around my ring finger. It’s subtle, kinda cool and can be covered up with a real ring if need be. The best part-it’s just for me.
When I shared the idea with the husband, he wanted to do it too.
Needless to say, it’s not just for me anymore so I’m looking for other ideas.
For now, Danny has helped get used to being someone with a tattoo by sharing his Speed Racer transfers. I have to say-I’m feeling pretty cool these days. Maybe I’ll just stick with the Mach 5.
i want a wedding band too, but can't pick a design.
LOL we were just talking about this topic last night in the car. I have never loved a design long enough to put it on my body FOREVER.
