Believe me, I know my college friends are impressive. There’s the one with the “little card business” and the one who quietly runs an entire University Alumni Foundation. This week, I was reminded of the awesomeness of the girl who puts bad guys away. And of course, there’s the Ironman. These are just the girls I can think of right at this moment. There are definitely more. (And yes Husband, I’m still allowed to call them girls. When they’re Your Girls, then they’re always girls, no matter their age or stage.)
It’s seems fitting today to dedicate the MiniVan Mix to my Kappa girls of WVU. The Atlantic Coast Conference may not think my college is “Academic enough” to join them in football (Can you say, “scared much”?) but I think our Alumnae prove them dead wrong.
So here’s to The Nineties, and all the amazing Alums that West Virginia University produced during those days.
10,000 Maniacs-These are Days: If you were a girl in her teens and early 20’s in the mid to late nineties then this is on a mix-tape somewhere. Don’t even try to deny it.
Rusted Root-Send Me on My Way: This may have been a regional hit as these were Pittsburgh guys (at least Pittsburgh claimed them) but now it’s a car commercial and it makes me feel ancient. In it’s day though, it was a fantastic outside beer garden song.
Big Head Todd and The Monsters: Bittersweet- For when we thought we were deep.
Pearl Jam: Black- Sweet mother THIS is why we loved him.
Hootie and the Blowfish:Only Wanna Be With You– It is not college if there is no Hootie
Dave Matthews Band: I’m not even picking a video for this one. Just pick a song, any song from Under the Table and Dreaming or Crash and I can guarantee it was playing in my sorority house (or Live in the backyard of Sigma Chi) at any given time for a two and a half year period.
