I am sitting here watching American Idol on DVR with my girl. She’s finally old enough to love it with me. Yay! Her dad hates it and he makes that quite clear by vocalizing his comments through the entire show. So I watch it in secret. I am thrilled to have a partner in crime now.
I have had this post brewing in me for a while, but just now, a young lady sang this, “I put on a poncho and sang for the mosquitoes and drank ’till I was thirsty again” and now I can’t wait any longer.
I love music. Clearly that is no secret. In fact, you’re probably sick of hearing it. Sometimes though, I just have to share because I can’t keep it to myself!
There are some lyrics that just stop me in my tracks. The magic of the words and the magical powers of the writers have to put seemingly random words together in a way that makes you smile, or cry or want to dance and sing is a gift I wish I was given but will just happily admire it in others because it enhances my life. This is probably why I love all types of music. Because lyrics transcend genre. There is amazing poetry on all your Sirius radio stations. You should give them all a try someday.
Here are some lyrics that I’m loving right now. Share some of your favorites in the comments. I love to be reminded of others.
If you’ve never stared off in the distance, then your life is a shame
and though I’ll never forget your face,
sometimes i can’t remember my name -Counting Crows
Last name ever, first name greatest. Like a sprained ankle boy I ain’t nothin‘ to play with. Drake-Forever.
I’m the opposite of moderate, immaculately polished with the spirit of a hustler and the swagger of a college kid- T.I (with Rihanna) live your life
If there is a God, he is laughing at us and our football team. Ben Folds-Effington.
I run from hate. I run from prejudice
I run from pessimists
But I run too late
I run my life
Or is it running me?-
(Dave Haywood / Charles Kelley / Hillary Scott / Tom Douglas)-Run to You
I was going to write some Ben Kweller lyrics too-but I can’t pick a small enough amount. Do yourself a favor, google him and find yourself some BK to love.
I could go on and on. I will spare you. Please share what gets you though. I love to hear the lyrics. As Gloria says, “The Music is gonna getcha.”

I'll try to restrain myself as much as possible:
"I had a dream I could buy my way to heaven/ When I awoke I spent it on a necklace/ told God I'd be back in a second/ it's so hard not to act reckless." – Kanye West
"I've gone from bad to worse/and later back to better/ but I'll never better bridges/ that I'm bent to burn." – Anna Nalick
"I'll be the water-wings that save you if you start drowning in an open tab, when you're judgement's on the brink. / I'll be the phonograph that plays your favorite albums back, as you're lying there, drifting off to sleep. / I'll be the platform shoes that undo what heredity has done to you – you won't have to strain to look into my eyes." – The Postal Service
"Never look behind you, all those people bring you down/ the world is ending, there's a party by the bay/ I'll wear my suit and tie with glass held high/ I'm toasting to the way you put that smile on my face." – Blue October
"Smelled the Hennesy from when his friends all got reminded/ and poured out liquor in his memory, he didn't mind it/ but he couldn't sip it fast enough/so the liquor was just fillin' the casket up./ Floatin down by his feet was a letter from his sister/ Second Grade handwriting, simply read 'I miss ya.'" – Lupe Fiasco
"I'm worst at what/ I do best/ and for this gift/ I feel blessed." – Nirvana
"Won't you change my mind/ I don't know better/ than to run from love/ in any measure / Won't you change my heart/ I'm leaving tonight/ Oh, whoa / won't you make me stay." – The Gold Motel
And who can forget:
"Is a dream a lie/ if it don't come true/ or is it somethin' worse?" – Bruce Springsteen

"I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance. Never settle for the path of least resistance. Living might mean taking chances
but they're worth taking, lovin' might be a mistake, but it's worth making. Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter. When you come close to selling out reconsider. Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance I hope you dance." I Hope You Dance – LeAnn Womack (is that so typical – seriously besides my love of dance I love all the lyrics, but that's my favorite verse.)
"This one's for the girls who ever had a broken heart, who wished upon a shooting star, you're beautiful the way you are. This one's for the girls." This One's For The Girls – Martina McBride
"Take my time here on this earth
And let it glorify all that You are worth
For I am nothing,I am nothing without You" I Am Nothing – Bebo Norman
"Hold your dreams, don't ever let it go
Be yourself and let the world take notice. You'll find strength, when people being you down. They will see if you will only, only believe." Hold Your Dreams – Naturi Naughton (from the new Fame movie)
Ok, I won't bore you with anymore of my favorite lyrics!! I do like lyrics that aren't so serious too, but I think I've taken up enough space on your comment section!

I am a music lover too Christie – it's how I think most of the times – I associate songs to all the moments of my life.
I love your music choices. You may want to check out Brandi Carlile – she is amazing – sounds like she might be up your alley.
Hmmm. Let me think about my favorite lyrics. How about this one? This songs always makes my breath catch.
"30 years go by with someone laying in your bed,
30 years of things you said you wished you'd never said.
How hard would it have been to say some kinder words instead?
I wonder as I stare up at the sky turning red . . ."
