One of the aspects I love most about Moms Bloggers for Social Good’s Global Team of 200 is that I have the privilege of learning about incredible programs around the world that exist for the betterment of people.
Fountain of Hope and the Save The Children funded, Sports in Action are two such programs. Fountain of Hope, in Lusaka, Zambia is a community center that provides residency for street children until they are ready and able to return to their home or placed in another safe home. In addition to their residency programs, Fountain of Hope also provides safe space for children to be children. They can play, learn and socialize at Fountain of Hope, for a much-needed respite from life on the streets.
Sports in Action is a program run at Fountain of Hope and funded by Save the Children, the incredible group I’ve written about here before. Sports in Action is an NGO (non-governmental organization) whose mission is to improve lives through sport. How great is that? I love the part of their mission statement that says,
“Sport In Action shall endeavor to use sport and recreation as a tool to improve the quality of children’s lives by providing a programme that will bring about motivation, self-development, child protection and self-reliance through social and economic empowerment”.
It’s my experience that all kids, no matter their background or where they live, benefit in nearly of these ways through involvement in sport. The Fountain of Hope community gives to children in great need so, through their affiliation, Sports in Action can do nothing but good.
