I received a complimentary variety package of BODYARMOR to try at home. All opinions are my own.
There are very few things I deny my kids when it comes to food and drink because I don’t want to create little binge eaters who crave soda and candy. That said, we don’t drink soda and 99.9% of the time I refuse to let them have sports drinks.
No matter how hard they play, there is just no justification for ingesting that much sugar and salt in one beverage. Unless my kids become ultra marathoners, it just doesn’t make caloric sense.
They are very good about listening to this rule but, man, their understanding doesn’t stop them from asking to “pleeeaaase have just one” now and again.
So, when I was given the chance to test BODYARMOR, a more healthy and natural sports drink, I jumped at the chance. BODYARMOR is a hydration drink with potassium and coconut water supplying the bulk of the electrolytes. There are only 30mg of sodium in a bottle (Because, let’s be real. Who only drinks half a bottle to keep to serving size?) as compared to over 200mg in some other sports drinks. The sugars are about half of other drinks and come from natural sugar instead of chemical sweeteners. The colors are all naturally derived as well, so no red40 to make my kids run around the backyard in circles!
The kids and I did a taste test after a full day of soccer in the hot sun. The kids loved it and honestly, so did I. There isn’t that salty aftertaste and the flavors are all generally milder than other sports drinks and they come in fun flavors like orange mango and strawberry banana. My favorite was lemon lime and you can see the kids’ picks below.
Overall, I am pleased with what BODYARMOR has to offer: a sports drink that the kids love and I can support after a tough day on the fields or diamonds. You can find BODYARMOR at Target, Fresh Direct and Food Emporium in the NY/NJ area and Target, Wegmans or Royal Farms in the DC area. Click here for a coupon to try it for yourself.
