I had the craziest dream last night where I was involved in some hijinks with The Girl. In the dream she was a bit older and she was being tormented by a classmate. We we going to confront the tormentor when something bad happened to her and we ran away.
Now the tormentor was like a bad novel character and the school looked like a boarding school. I know it’s only a dream and I know it was much more like a bad WB show than real life but it did make me think. What happens as they get older and my roles as Teacher and Protector might collide.
I’m loving being a parent of older children. Truth be told, I’m not a baby person and I am not dreading the day I’m out of preschool all together. I much prefer my time with them now as they start to engage in real conversations and stimulating interactions. But the bigger they get, the bigger the trouble gets and that just might scare the life right out of me.
What do you think? As a parent how do you handle the responsibility of guiding them toward morality when all you want to do is keep them safe? How do you let them grow and keep them your cubs all at the same time.
