Once upon a time I was a young girl who dreamed of being on a Broadway stage. I never came close to any stage except the one in my elementary school cafeteria upon which I took the role of Sally in A Charlie Brown Christmas to award winning levels. (And by award I mean I cut out a tiny Tony Statue from paper and presented it to myself in my bedroom amidst roaring fake applause.)
But we’re not here to talk about me. The wonder for today’s Wednesday Wonder is my children, the older two, who have clearly inherited my love of theater and their father’s flair for drama. The Girl has never met a monologue she doesn’t like and The Middle One, though reluctant, is an outstanding performer of both song and stage (not, dance so much but you can’t win ’em all).
You can imagine then how quickly I jumped on the opportunity to attend a Broadway Edge class with these two budding stars. Broadway Edge is a studio that specializes in musical theater classes. I jumped even quicker knowing the class of that day would center around Annie. We had just attended Annie as a family the weekend before Superstorm Sandy so the songs were still fresh in the minds of the kids.
The class was amazing, mostly because of the outstanding teachers who were the perfect mix of passionate and patient. What was even more outstanding though were the kids. The group learned a choreographed piece to It’s a Hard Knock Life. I took video to share but then accidentally deleted it from my camera. Oops. Trust me when I tell you, video or not, it was a morning full of wonder. My kids were in their element as were a few other future Tony winners in the group. Some other kids in the group, who may have started out a little shy or reserved, were all singing and acting with gusto after their time with the incredible teachers.
It was remarkable to watch the transformation in such a short time. I can’t imagine if my kids had more time in this class, how that would change they way they perform in the future. I feel so lucky we got a chance to try and if there isn’t wonder in luck, then I don’t know where to find it.
What’s your wonder this week?

We LOVED having your kids in our workshop, and you’re right: They both have that X factor. We can’t wait to see them on Broadway one day.

Thanks! I’m sure they’ll be thrilled to know someone thinks that besides their mom.;)

Sounds cool! I can’t wait until Juliette is old enough for all this fun stuff.
My wonder this week was Juliette’s face at our first mommy & me swim lesson. (Not a fan of mommy & me programs, but she was right on the edge age wise and I couldn’t imagine her first real class in the water without me!!) I have never seen someone so happy to be in the water. Wish I had a picture/video of her ear to ear smile.

There is nothing better than when they first love something. I love little fishy babies! I could have watched G forever this summer as he finally got his “pool legs”. It is all just fun after fun from here on out.
