Where did summer go? I know I spent a couple weeks in late July wishing it were time to go back to school. But then I blinked and it WAS time to go back to school. Even the temperature is pushing fall on us too soon.
Oh well, we’re making the most of the last few days of summer. Today was pancakes and later a picnic at the park. Tomorrow the beach-for as long as we can stand it. We may even stop for ice-cream on our way home. Then I’ll hold each of them-for just a little longer than they’d like. Because when summer goes, so does one more year of my babies being babies. When next summer ends their ages will not even hint at baby.
So these last few days, when they still want to spend their time with me and only me, we will catch fire flies and race to the park and snuggle on the couch watching just a bit too much television. We will do it together-my babies and I.
And I will be thankful for lazy summer days-even if they go too fast.
