When I work with clients who are either trying to lose weight or trying to live healthier or both, one of the first things we start with is water intake. Water is the key to so many doors toward healthy living. And in this country, we are (mostly) very lucky that we have access to water whenever we want it. In fact, when my clients moan and groan about having to drink more water, I often wonder if they realize what a tremendous priviledge that is.
Much of the world doesn’t share our fortune. Acording to UN statistics, more than one in six people worldwide , don’t have access to improved water sources. That means 1 in 6 people not only can’t drink the water without being sick, they may not even have access to water of any kind within miles of their house. Think about the amount of time you switch on a sink during the day. How about reach for a glass or bottle of water? How often? Now imagine not having that option, ever.
WaterAid is a leading international non-profit organization focused exclusively on improving people’s access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation. WaterAid works in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region as well as campaigning globally with their partners to realize a world where everyone has access to the basic human needs that water provides. l
Why should you care? Well, water and sanitation are vital to reducing poverty around the world. And a stronger global economy helps us all. WaterAid has made donating to the cause worth your time and money, not just because of the incredible services that money will go toward, but also because you’ll get something out of it as well. When you “shop for water aid” you can donate an amount that matches directly with one particular service or product so not only do you know just where you’re money is going, but you can give this as a gift to someone special in your life.
I’ve mentioned our Christmas giving tradition among my husband’s siblings before. How about a birthday gift of water to a friend. After all, don’t we all really have everything we need most of the time these days? Wouldn’t it be great to gift someone the peace of mind that comes from helping to build a better world, rather than a new spatula, or sweater? Check out WaterAid’s donate section for a few different ways to not just give, but give back as well.

Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this blog. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s hard to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual appearance. I must say you have done a superb job with this. Also, the blog loads extremely fast for me on Firefox. Outstanding Blog!
