There is nothing worse than stepping on a Lego in bare feet. Or how about crawling across the floor and getting a Thomas Train to the knee? Agony. I have clutter issues to begin with so when my kids starting getting to the age of “small toy madness” I thought it might break me.
We try to keep things simple around here but even with our bare bones mentality there are still toys to wrangle. I tried every type of storage system from the costly Pottery Barn baskets to dollar store plastic bins on Target shelves.
What I love the best and what has grown along with my children is the Trofast system from IKEA. The simple pine or white frames lend themselves to many configurations and any paint color you desire. The buckets vary in size so you can stash both tiny Bakugan balls in the same system as giant dump trucks or Barbie cars. The best part is that they are easy in and easy out and easy clean up which helps when trying to teach kiddoes the rule of “put one back before you take another”. My house can be a mess, but thanks to Trofast my kids are all able to help with clean up no matter their age or physical abilities. These buckets are kid friendly and mom friendly.
As electronics take over our house and the toys make their way to new homes, we have even converted one of our Trofast systems to a recycling center in our kitchen. Those Swedes, I tell ya: genius. No wonder they’re such a peaceful people-no Lego foot.
