It’s nothing special. In fact, I’m not even sure it’s real wood. It’s probably some toxic synthetic that’s actually poisoning us with its off-gasses.
It was $200 for the entire set. I found it online at Kmart or Walmart or some other cheap mart. I don’t even remember where. I just remember we needed it quick and we were broke so this was the best we could do.
It’s cheap and faux and now, after only two years, pretty well banged-up so it’s completely worthless.
Except, I’ll never get rid of it because it is the Memory Holder of this home.
Life happens at this kitchen table. Meals, yes, but also homework and morning pancakes and coffee with cousins and aunts. There is late night wine and conversation around this table. Easter Brunch is served here for people that we love and pans and pans of lasagna in July for the Clan we call ours.
If you look closely enough, you can probably see the shadow of spelling sentences or math facts written with a pencil held too hard. It may be sticky with leftover playdough or
strawberry jelly.
It isn’t fancy or really worth a dime, but to me, it’s priceless, this kitchen table of mine.
Because life happens here and no matter how dirty or crowded or flawed it, like the table, is the life that I love.

I can never part with my dining room table. When our Great Dane was a teething pup, she just the right height to chew on the tables’s corners. We lost her in May. We have space for a bigger table, but this one is perfect with those imperfections.

Isn’t it funny what becomes important? I thought I cared so much about how perfect everything looked but that goes farther and farther down the list as we build our “Home” and not just fill our house.

It looks very similar to our table – always covered in books, school work, projects, and memories!

I almost cleaned it off for the picture but then figured this served a better illustrative purpose for the post. It is as it is!
