I have been a bit homesick of late. You know, wishing I were back in MD where everything is familiar and fun. So I have decided to take a page from Oprah’s rule book and list what I am grateful for. This way, I can stop and think about all that is good-not all that I am missing.
I am grateful to live in Red Bank, NJ because:
-My kitchen sink handles are installed backwards. This may not seem like something to be grateful for, but when you’re hands are all gooey with raw meat or cookie dough, you can just push them with the back of your wrist and wa–lah you are clean without spreading salmonella germs.
-When I walk through town I forget who I am and for a brief moment am transported into my fake world in Stars Hollow. You know the fictional town from the old WB show Gilmore Girls? I swear this town is so darn cute that I am SURE Kurt is sitting inside the coffee shop on Broad St. I am still waiting for the minstrel.
-My next-door neighbor is awesome. She’s a super-cool mom of teenagers who works a very high powered job and somehow found time to start a non-profit where she recycles flower displays (weddings/funerals etc) and makes and delivers new arrangements to long term patients at our local hospital. Also, she gave us homemade salsa that was so good it almost made me cry.
-Every once in a while at school pick up I over hear a mom who sound EXACTLY like Jill Zarin. I close my eyes for a minute and pretend I am friends with Jill and Bobby and all their fabulousness.
–Sometimes when the wind blows just right you can smell the ocean.
–Three words: Tribeca Film Festival
