I’ve always been a fan of the Children’s Place for cheap t-shirts and pajamas. It’s hard to argue with their prices and when you know kids are going to tear through clothes, inexpensive rules.
However, it used to be that TCP was limited when my kids got a little older and the girls stuff started to look a little trashy. Hey, I told the new, (fabulous!) designer my thoughts on the line before he saved it, so I can say it here. They had clothes for tween girls that were either bordering on inappopriate with their cropped shirts and short skirts or just plain obnoxious with things like “princess in charge” or “hot stuff” printed on t-shirts that might be cute on an 18 month old, but not on a girl about to get breasts.
It seemed as my kids got older I’d be relegated to the more expensive stores that sold clothes I could feel comfortable letting my offspring dress in and represent the family name. Children’s Place wasn’t alone in abandoning the parent’s at a certain age, anywhere reasonably priced seemed to max out at age six.
I’m here to say that seems to have changed. At BlogHer I was lucky enough to be invited my MomTrends to preview the Children’s Place Holiday Line which included not just gorgeous holiday styles, but some great back to school outfits for boys and girls of all ages. Their baby and toddler stuff is still to-die-for adorable (see the rose dress that almost made me go home to try to make a baby) but the best news is that the bigger sizes are everything you want them to be as a parent and as cutting edge and stylish as your tweens want them to be.
They have everything from skinny jeans to taffeta holiday dresses that are age-appropriate and fun-for mom and kids.
The girls will love all the sequins-that can be found on boots, shirts, dresses and an owl winter hat I might just try to buy for myself.
The boys’ stuff spans the tastes from skater/surfer chic to classic preppy. There are chords, cargos and skinny jeans for all. There are even some flannels for the trendy lumberjack.
Of course The Children’s Place still has plenty of the printed t-shirts that I think them famous for. But now they have moved from obnoxious to on-trend cool with both liscened Marvel and Hello Kitty and original sequined STAR (which you may still think obnoxious, but your kids will love).
So when you’re looking for back to school clothes this month and need to bulk up the Holiday wardrobe in a couple months (yikes!) head to Children’s Place first. They won’t disappoint your tastes or your budget.
Disclosure: I was invited by MomTrends to preview this collection at a party in NYC. Yes, I enjoyed a glass of champagne or two, but all opinions are my own. Trust me, I would not be sharing with ya’ll if these clothes weren’t adorable-champagne or not.

Cathy,
Just stick to Children’s Place! Seriously, I remember that age being the scariest too. They’re still your baby and yet the jeans get skinny and the shirts get short. SO bizarre. I’ll keep a box of hand me downs at the ready.;)

What’s really scary is Macy’s. I loved shopping there for Juliette up until just now. Now it’s all Hello Kitty, Dora etc. and I HATE clothes with characters on them for the most part, unless they are pajamas. (or I usually am okay with Sesame Street or Muppets…lol) What happened to the cute corduroy jumpers? Unless you spend lots of $$$ it’s hard! We do have a lot of stuff from The Children’s Place so I will keep going there. Not as fun to go as when I was young. When I was young they had a play place for kids. I used to beg my mom to go in there so we could play! LOL

I already find things scary at 2T and 3T…not sure what I am going to do when J is a tween!
