When the snow started falling Sunday afternoon, it took everything I had not to panic. I knew that Monday morning I would head out on a train to NYC to see The Talk during their live week on the East Coast. I love the ladies of The Talk. I don’t get a whole lot of time to watch television these days, but if I do get to choose a daytime talk show, this is the show I would choose every time.
The women are intelligent and opinionated, yet no one screams over anyone else, and they all treat eachother like good girlfriends should-with respect and just a touch of sass. Sometimes it gets loud. Sometimes there is more laughter than language, but you never feel awkward or uncomfortable when you watch the banter of Sharon Osbourne, Julie Chen, Aisha Tyler, Sheryl Underwood and Sara Gilbert. So, I was pretty excited to join some of my good girlfriends to see the women of The Talk as they made their way to New York. When I found out the guest would be Garth Brooks, well that about pushed me over the edge.
I’m a bit of a Garth fanatic. I’ve been stalking his Vegas show for years, trying always to figure out a way to make it out there. The Husband and I once saw Garth play live together. We drove to Boston for the concert when we were still dating. Garth played a song that night that we had never heard but from almost the first note we looked at each other and agreed if we ever married that would be our wedding song. We did. It was. (Thankfully, the song came out on a CD a few months before the wedding. For a while we thought we might have to write Garth letters begging him to send our DJ a copy!)
As you might imagine, when the snow threatened to thwart my plans for the day, I was none to happy. Luckily, I worked very hard at remaining calm and sure enough it all worked out beautifully. As wonderful as The Talk was, I was also excited about the company I got to keep. I was with some of my favorite bloggers and PR gurus including Beth Feldman and Danielle Feigenbaum of Beyond PR, Kim Orlando, Jennifer Wagner, Shari Von Holten, and Onica Cupido. We were all invited to see the show and work our social skills by using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to chat about the show and guests. That’s why if you see me on my phone, you know I’m not being rude-just doing my job!
I made it into the city snow-free and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon. The excitement in the studio was fantastic. The women were as lovely and gracious in person as they appear on your t.v. (Aisha Tyler is downright luminous people!!) And Mr. Brooks did not disappoint. We even got to take home his box set which has been on steady repeat since I got home Monday evening!
Of course there were other guests as well. We heard from Perez Hilton about his joy at all things Kanye and of course a mouth-watering cooking segment with Chef Scott Conant as well!
All in all, not a bad way to spend a Monday. As mom’s, we’re sometimes nervous about “the talk” but this time, it was the best kind of The Talk!
