Wanna know how I am certain the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree? After the rant yesterday about the inequities of being a wifey, I spent the afternoon trying to settle The Girl down. She is quite perturbed.
It is Lent and in her Catholic school they are planning their Last Supper feast. She has asked more and more questions every day. The one I don’t have any good answer for; the one that has her inner wifey all kinds of confused and just a little angry? “Mom, why aren’t there any roles for girls at the last supper feast? Jesus loved us all, why didn’t he want any girls to spread his word?”
Damn. Add explaining inexplicable religious roles to the stinky jobs wifey has. I’m tellin‘ ya-I rethink this Catholic education on a daily basis. Heck, I might even be re-thinking Catholic.
Oy!

Cousin Jesse would have explained to her the social ramifications of the times that Jesus lived in and the inequities of the roles that women were allowed to have ad nauseum until she forgot the original queston.
Cousin Kyle would have simply told her it was because of their small pea like brains.
They are twins… but not identical

Actually the best book I have read which makes a good case that woman were indeed there (the picture is a myth growing out the the male domination of the Church)is Shūsaku Endō's only English translation of a work of non-fiction titled The Life of Jesus (1973) see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shusaku_Endo for more, especially his novels.

perhaps it's time to get her portfolio together for the "lead" in the St. James May procession =)

Ah…the play's the thing! Yes, if she is interested in performing this is probably something she should get used to. There aren't a ton of good roles for women in Hollywood. No proof that the Church has anything to do with that.
Side note: I think Faith has plenty of role(models) she can follow in the Church just based on the women above.

Ladies-I tried the Queen of Heaven and earth thing AND the mother of Jesus without whom there'd be no Jesus. No dice. She wants to break bread and spread the word darnit. (Mostly I think she just wants a part in the play at school.)

and the Annunciation is great because you can count that it's 9 months before Christmas!! that seems like something Faith would find interesting!

Explain to her about the Annunciation, which we celebrate today. Without a women, and her amazing surrender to the will of God for her life, there would not have been a Last Supper!
with love for all you teach my grand children about life and love and womanhood!
