Ah yes, the time has come. My boys lulled me into a false sense of security after school ended by sleeping until close to 8 AM. I thought it would be a glorious summer if I could still get up around six and have a full two hours to get things done before my world shifted into one of noise and motion.
And it was. It was a glorious, if only briefly.
For the last two days they have been up in the six o’clock hour so I am barely through the top half of the to do list (or even out of bed in some cases) before they come bounding down the stairs. I decided to keep enforcing the “my time law” that we have during the school year and let them know I wasn’t on duty until seven. They were free to pour themselves cereal, read a book or watch a show that they could get on television without any assistance from me.
It has actually turned into my favorite time of day. The Middle One has stepped nicely into big brother role and I sit and listen to him fix his brother breakfast and all the explanation he gives him for every step. It’s adorable. The Baby gives his brother the same grouchy hard time he gives me so I love hearing The Middle One balance his sense of duty with his frustration at his demanding little Generalissimo brother.
Adorable.
And all the while The Girl is fast asleep upstairs.
