“Mom, The Hub is coming on 10-10-10!”
I heard this repeatedly, from all three kids, for the entire month of September. You would have thought October 10th was Christmas morning with the countdown that was going on around here. When I finally figured out they were talking about Discovery Kids turning into a new network, I did a little digging. I never figured out exactly what the draw was, but be sure that the new network had my kids hooked days before it even debuted.
What seemed weird was that the new network looked suspiciously like my old kid network. I mean, Strawberry Shortcake is almost as old as me and she is the star of one of the new shows, along with the Pound Puppies and in prime time and old favorite, Family Ties. There is even a great game show, Family Game Night, that has proven an excellent addition to our own popcorn and viewing nights around here. Now that I think about it, I might be just as excited as my kids.
As you can imagine then it was without hesitation that I accepted the invitation to a birthday bash for Ms. Shortcake’s 30th. Kimberly Coleman, Beth Feldman and American Greetings were the hosts of the soiree, which took place at Alice’s Tea Cup Chapter II, an adorable tea house on the East Side of Manhattan.
There we were reintroduced to Strawberry and learned about some of her new friends from The Hub. Let me tell you these party hosts did not disappoint. The kids got their faces painted,
caricatures drawn,
gorged on delicious desserts and of course got to meet Strawberry herself as well as some of her friends like, The Baby’s favorite, Dander from the Twisted Whiskers Show.
We had a ball and if we weren’t before, we are officially Hub Converts.
Thanks Kimberly Coleman and Beth Feldman for actually capturing a picture of my kids with me in it! |
