If you’ve been on any social media outlet with me this week you have seen I’m in mourning for my Dillon, Texas friends of Friday Night Lights fame. This strange sadness that has come over me as the show ended made me recognize it’s not the first time I have pined for the Lone Star. It seems, I have a long standing love for Texas. I mean, I’d never want to live there permanently (except maybe Austin) but there is something about that place that gets under my skin. It’s strange really. The Husband hates everything Texan as he’s a die hard Washington Redskin fan and they’ve never been fond of Dallas which means, in my husband’s insane sports’ mind, you have to hate the whole state. I on the other hand have visited Dallas on numerous occasions and am quite taken with it. I don’t know if it’s the “we know no one ever takes us totally seriously so we’ll just act badass” attitude or the fact that refined women have closets where Jimmy Choos and cowboy boots reside as comfortable shelf neighbors. Either way, there is something about Texas I dig so this week I’m picking all music from there. I think you’ll be surprised at how it isn’t all twang and bull fightin’.
Texas Forever.
Trish Murphy: The Trouble with Trouble. See? Even chicks rock in Texas.
Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle & Townes van Zandt: If I Needed You. Emmylou isn’t from Texas, but the other two ARE Texas so this works.
Delbert McClinton at Austin City Limits: I picked this one because Austin City Limits is on my bucket list (now that SXSW has turned into tech and social media hipster fest) and Delbert’s sporting a Yankee jersey which I find kinda ironic, or just funny. Whatevs.
Pat Green: Crazy: He’s a party guy but I freakin’ love his softer side. There were many a night in a kitchen in Arnold, MD where I spun circles to this song with one of my two loves. An ultimate on my love song list
Pat Green again: Two? Why yes, don’t mind if I do. It’s my blog and I love me some Pat Green. Having a beer with him is on the bucket list too. When you’re bettin’ a dollar on first song, I say choose Carry On!
