Where to begin? There is absolutely no way I can communicate in words the amount of fun I had Saturday night at my SIL’s bachelorette party. This is July Bride of the “please be simple and get your dress at Target” fame. There is one word to describe the July bride:dance. I know, it’s not an adjective, and I know she is way more complex and interesting a person than a one word description. But in a what’s-the-first-thing-to-come-to-mind game, when someone says “July Bride” I think-dance.
Needless to say this was no ordinary bachelorette party. Oh yes, there was a veil, blinged out flip flops and a fake diamond ring that had flashing lights. But there was no intention to embarrass the bride (hard to do) play any silly- meet random guy- games (really, why?) or drink our faces off (been there, done that, thanks.). There was one mission to the evening. You guessed it:DANCE.
You all know how I think dancing is therapeutic. We do it around here most every night.
July Bride takes it to a whole new level. First off, she is really, really good. Second, so are all her friends. Really. All of them. It’s bizarre. From high school through college and cousins she’s known from birth, these women take over a dance floor from the minute they walk in a room. The funniest part is there is an instant, palpable respect among club/bar patrons who look and suddenly realize things have changed. These commoners no longer mess with the dance floor.
Oh yes, some stand around in wonder. (Who are these girls? Should we know them?) There are a brave few (read stupid) guys who attempt to dance with the girls in a gross drunk-guy grind. But, depending on their level of lecherousness, they are either politely pushed aside or relentlessly mocked with the “Bad Dancing” that the girls made up. The beauty of Bad Dancing, is that the guys never know they’re being mocked because even the Bad Dancing looks darn good to the rest of the world.
Hysterical.
It is not that the boys aren’t welcome. See, the best thing about July Bride and her Dancing Queens is that they are all inclusive. They don’t care how you dance, you just have to respect the dance. You can be bad or you can be awesome and they welcome you. In fact, they frequently encourage (or drag) you into their circle if they think you should love the song.
The only thing that gets you pushed off the dance floor is a show off who is trying to steal The Dancing in any way.
See July Bride and the Dancing Queen’s don’t care about your skill level. They will never mock you as long as you are dancing for the joy of dancing. They respect that. They are happy to have you join their party, just don’t try to steer it in any direction that will stop their flow.
If this bachelorette party is a hint of things to come, I can’t wait for the wedding. And I feel pretty darn sorry for that poor DJ. I hope he knows how to Respect the Dance.
Wish I could have been there…I haven’t been out dancing since my own wedding. (I know it hasn’t been that long, but still) Can’t wait for the July wedding. : )
