Around these parts, we all mourn the closing of beach clubs on Labor Day but luckily, not the closing of the beach! In fact, some prefer September on the Jersey Shore. The Tuesday after Labor Day is known as the beginning of Local Summer.
I used to pack it all in on Labor Day and make the hard transition to fall. But this year, I intend to take full advantage Local Summer and extend our beach days as long as the sun will let me.
Our first plan is hitting up Jenkinson’s for the boardwalk rides, great food and the aquarium (which is open all year. This was a family favorite when I had preschoolers!).
We’ll go on days off or weekends in September and October while rides are open. When my kids were little and not in school full time, we spent a good many fall days on the boards at Jenks.
It’s locally known that fall is great there because the crowds have thinned, the traffic is gone, and the temperatures have dropped just enough to really spend all day on the boards. The rides are open through October 11th and the Aquarium and arcade are both open all year. So the fun really is never done at Jenkinson’s!
So, here we come Himalaya, and soft-serve! Just because we’ve put our white shoes away, doesn’t mean we can still have boardwalk fun. It’s never too late for making a #JenksMemory!
