to teach my kid to tie her shoes.
It’s bad enough she has to get over the trauma of wearing “boy shoes” (the brown doc martens that go with the school uniform) but they are the FIRST pair of shoes she has ever owned with laces. She’s a girly-girl. It has been nothing but ballet flats and flowered boots since day one.
So far, she is handling the task like a champ. I, however, am paranoid. I was that second grade teacher that used to roll my eyes and huff and puff when I had to tie my students’ shoes because “(sigh) how could their parents have not made sure they knew how to ties shoes before they came to school?”.
Ooops.
There is nothing more humbling than being a former teacher-mother.
My apologies for the eye-rolling.
My apologies for the eye-rolling.
Please teachers, have mercy on the kid with the bad mom.

She really has to wear doc martens? What about wallabes or even saddle shoes?
