We spent the last few days in Maryland and it was great to see old friends and family. We had a great time but it was bittersweet being “home” but not really being home.
What I mostly took away from the trip was a desire to really move here-to Red Bank. I’ve kept one foot back in Silver Spring since we got to Jersey a few months ago. We have tried to acclimate, but not fully. On the contrary Silver Spring has not kept a spot for us.
I went to our old house to take some pictures for the insurance agent and the place looked adorable. We have renters, who are living in that house temporarily just as we are here. The difference is, they really moved there. There is a welcome mat and a wind chime and flowers. They have even painted a few rooms. It was much cuter than the house we are in now, with the empty flower boxes, chipped paint and no window treatments. I have this weird desire not to do anything here because it’s not my house.
What I learned from our renters though, was that this house in Red Bank is ours. We live here and no matter how short our time, we should really move in and make it our home.
So today I’ll rearrange some furniture. Maybe I’ll even buy some curtains. Whatever details I focus on, it’s time to make this my home. Because it’s the only one I have.

It looked like a home to me:) And you will always have a "home" in Silver Spring.
