With no screens in this house this week, I have been privy to some wonderful games of Trio Block Building and outdoor sci-fi adventures. Turns out my kids are very creative. We all just forgot that when we plugged ourselves into the internet.
I’ve spent a good deal of time with them, both in the ocean (yes, me in the water-it must be hot!) and playing board games. But I also have to work and cook and clean so they have been left to their own devices for some of the day. Usually, that’s when they’d log on to Minecraft or whatever the game du jour is.
This week, they’ve had to re-introduce themselves to all the other toys around here and the results have been outstanding. Not only are they playing for hours, they are doing it without fighting. What is it about gaming that makes my boys so irritable and snappish with eachother?
I had no idea what to expect when I “took away” screens this week.
The results have made us all happier than I could have ever imagined.
