A few weeks ago I had the chance to read Seating Arrangements by Maggie Shipshead. Watch the video to see what I think (and why I’m dressed like a clown.). Before you click play, I’ll leave you with this excerpt which was so well-done I underlined it. Underlining? In a fiction book? This one, yes!
Oatsie is the Matriarch of one of the two wealthy families involved in a wedding. She’s talking to the sad and single sister of the bride.
“You out to go to law school.” Oatsie said decisively. “You’d make a wonderful lawyer. You have beautiful hair.”
“Thank you.” Livia said. When she was old she wanted to be like Oatsie: imperious, brusque and given to non-sequitur.
“That woman Janet Reno,” Oatsie continued “Her hair was an abomination.”
Just a little taste of seating arrangements.
Disclosure: I received a copy of Seating Arrangements as a member of the RoleMommy Book Club. All opinions are my own.
