Sometimes a mom just needs some songs that make her think of how much she loves her kids and their dad. Here are some of mine.
Somebody Loved-The Weepies: First, don’t mock me for loving this lame show because I did. Second, I think this is supposed to be a love song for a partner and while it makes sense there too, I can’t help but think of my babies-making me somebody who is loved.
Proud of the House We Built-Brooks & Dunne- “When other kids were diving into swimming holes, you and I were diving into the great unknown.” Mr.King, it seems like it’s all upstream some days, but I’m proud to go swimming with you.
My Life Would Suck Without You-Kelly Clarkson: Three years ago, scared and feeling very alone, out of sheer desperation for levity, I would blast this song in our old kitchen and dance wildly around almost every night after dinner with my little kids. They thought it was a blast. They never noticed I was crying through most of it. Guess what? We survived. We’re here and we’re happy. And you know what’s still true? No matter how great I’ve learned I can make it on my own, my life would totally suck without you.
