It is no secret I love music. My taste is varied, meaning there is very little that I don’t like. One thing I have tried not to do as a parent is make our world entirely filled with kid music. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love me some Laurie Berkner or Justin Roberts as much as the next mom. I just don’t wish for that to be on repeat at all times.
So I’ve come up with a few iPod mixes that are both kid and mother approved. My most recent compilation is a mix that lasts exactly the length of a train ride into NYC from my house. It has both light numbers and thinking woman’s songs. It ends with Robin Thicke’s When I Get You Alone, so that when I come up out of the tunnel into the light of the city, I have a little strut in my step. Just like you should.
Here are a few songs from that list that my kids particularly enjoy. Hope they make your kid-car rides a little better!
If there were no you. Brandi Carlile
You and I: Ingrid Michaelson
For the Girl: Fratellis (If you know my dancing kids you can almost picture them jumping around the kitchen to this one.)
Sound of Sunshine: Michael Franti and Spearhead (This is the obligatory “try not to smile” song on this mix.)
At the Beach: Avett Brothers (My recommendation is check out everything they do. I mean, whistling? Love.)

I was reading this while J was playing on the floor and when I played the song by “The Fratellis” J started cracking up and bouncing up and down!! : )

Love this! She’s a dancing queen already. That song is great fun.
