There is a radio station in the DC area, WKYS. I used to listen to it on my way home from work at night in high school and college. It was hip-hop by day and slow jam R&B at night. There was a DJ whose beautiful baritone gave new meaning to the phrase, “like butter”. I would listen to that station just to be soothed by him after a long hard day. Through the years though I ended up with way more. KYS exposed me to some of my favorite songs that I still love on a hot rainy day like this. No go-go this time around. Promise.
Oh boy did I think I could sing, and break some hearts when I first heard this one.
“Every thug needs a lady.” Ok so don’t listen to the lyrics and try to ignore the blatant misogyny. Just enjoy the smooth jam.
What Smooth Jam list would be complete without a little Mary J? (OSM-this one’s for you.)
Remember when she did this? Some people call it blasphemy I guess. I say she’s the only one who could pull it off. “Na, na, na”.
Again, try to ignore the words except the part where he thanks his mama.
